The grocery stores were another story altogether.

So after last week and only spending $.50 on groceries I seem to have gone in the complete opposite direction and overspent again!

In my defense I had won a $50 Meijer Gift Card that I planned to use to pick up some things that weren’t exactly on my list.  The problem with that was that I didn’t realize how many extras I was grabbing and before I knew it the register said $88.86.  After the $50 gift card I spent a total of $57.35 at the grocery stores.

Weekly Shopping Report + 3 Shopping Tips

weekly shopping reportCan I just start off this report saying that it is my hope that I can always remain as transparent as possible in my shopping reports that I share here with you.  As you might notice this week, I have a ways to go in my journey to where I would like to be.

I made the very big mistake of shopping with my hubby this week.  It’s not totally his fault, but I have found that I do a much better job when I go to the grocery store along.  I am much more likely to stick to my list and plan when I avoid the following mistakes:

Try to always shop alone. This means whenever possible leave your kiddos at home and do NOT under any circumstances bring your hubby along especially if you already know that he will distract you or cause more items to be added to the cart than you planned.

Don’t shop hungry. It never fails, if I am hungry I will give into temptation and buy more than necessary.

Don’t wander. The longer I am in a store the more likely extras are going to find their way into my cart.  I found this week that I grabbed several things that were not on my list but I knew we didn’t have at home.  That would be no biggie except the things I tossed into my basket because I need them even though they were not on the list, are not even going to get used this week and could have been put off for another week and another chunk of the budget.

Since I got my order of Zaycon Chicken and overspent by quite a bit this week, I think you’ll be seeing quite a few of my favorite chicken recipes over the next couple weeks.  Also I have a feeling I won’t spend much next week and everything will end up balancing out.
