This is the first year that I have ever heard of The Elf on the Shelf, but let me say I would have LOVED this when my kids were younger!

It’s a neat way to start a family holiday tradition!

What is it?

The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Tradition is an activity the entire family will enjoy. Based on the tradition Carol Aebersold began with her family in the 1970s, this cleverly rhymed children’s book explains that Santa knows who is naughty and/or nice because he sends a scout elf to every home. During the holiday season, the elf watches children by day and reports to Santa each night. When children awake, the elf has returned from the North Pole and can be found hiding in a different location. This activity allows The Elf on the Shelf to become a delightful hide-and-seek game.

Each Tradition-in-a-BoxT comes with its very own scout elf, a hardbound children’s book and a keepsake box for easy storage. In addition, each shipment is marked for “Special Delivery” from Santa’s workshop.”

How to get this deal:

Your total should be $14.97.

Do you already have an Elf on the Shelf? I’d love to hear how your family has incorporated it into you holidays!

I’d love to, but I think $26+ for a tiny elf is a bit much.

  2. Stacey Rice Brown via Facebook says:

It is steep up front, but since you keep it and reuse it each year, it ends up not being too bad!

  3. Andrea Gardner via Facebook says:

We don’t use it because my husband and I find it creepy, lol. “I’m waaaatching youuuu! Muahahaha!”

  4. We love our elf on a shelf, we’ve had ours for 3 years now. The kids love waking up in the morning to find where he is hiding. I’ve caught them talking to him too, either apologizing for being bad or telling him what they want for Christmas. They are already asking when he is coming back, he will be back this weekend.

  5. Alicia Holman via Facebook says:

The mother daughter duo who wrote it are local to my hometown. Their husband/father works with my mom.

Our elf made its appearance today, actually. Frumpy is his name.

Its also more than just the elf…it is the elf and the book…hardback.

Yes it is our first year with it as well. My daughter is 3 and it is a good time to start this tradition.

I saw them at Target in the book section. I really want one but the elf is a little creepy. I am hoping to find another brand.
