This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of eSmart Tax. All opinions are 100% mine.

This is NOT my most favorite time of the year.  In fact I am not quite sure why, but I actually get a feeling of dread that comes upon me every year around January 28th because I know that it is coming.

It is no secret to those of you who read this blog of mine that I am a little less than organized most of the time.  In fact it is an ongoing battle that I uually can find myself on the losing end of.  And I believe that is actually what I dread most of all about the whole tax season.  It is not the thought of owing taxes that really bothers me so much.  It is the thought of gathering up all of my tax information and taking it to my tax preparer and wondering if she thinks I am the most disorganized mess around.  Of course this is just silly because I spend days gathering my stuff and organizing it so that I will not get the look that I am dreading.  The thing is that I need to figure out a way to be more vigilant about keeping my tax information organized throughout the year so I don’t find myself in this situation again.  Maybe this year.

I recently discovered that you can file for free online at eSmartTax.com which would totally save me from the need of a tax preparer at all!  And if your last name is Johnson you’re going to be able to take advantage of the premium service because Johnsons file free!

This is a special promotion that they are offering this year in honor of the fact that according to the Census Bureau, there are 2,121,489 Johnsons in America, making it the second most popular name in the nation; and it’s also the last name of eSmart’s new spokesperson, Daryl Johnson, an eSmart customer from Richmond, Virginia. The last name is representative of the everyday taxpayer, someone who wants to file their return with ease and accuracy while generating the biggest refund they deserve.

OK here is my trick on the tax paperwork. Most of it arrives in December or January, so in December get a big manila folder, label it "taxes" and stuff all the important statements in there. If you get receipts throughout the year such as charity donations, start your folder early or just remember where you park those things. Then about a week before you expect to do your taxes (pro or software or online) go through that pile, see if there is any documents you are missing or need to request. Sort the papers into some kind of order – put the W2's together, put the charity receipts together, etc. Then you are ready to go.

These are such great idea, thanks Paula!

Now the key is to actually follow through and do them. Not sure why year after year I sabotage myself, but I think this is the year that I really get organized once and for all. Again, thank you very much for these ideas.
