If you are a homeschooler then chances are pretty good that you have heard of Charlotte Mason at one time or another.

I was very fortunate to be introduced to the Charlotte Mason teaching method in the very beginning of my homeschooling days. There are so many things I love about Miss Mason’s ideas. But for my family, the biggest one had to be the emphasis on Nature Study.

Allowing children lots and lots of time outdoors to get to know their creator by spending time in creation. This is the perfect way for young children to learn in my opinion. Of course we are an outdoors kind of family, so this was a perfect fit for us.

One of the first books I purchased was Anna Comstock’s “The Big Handbook of Nature Study”.  This huge book had EVERYTHING in it! We would refer to it several times over the years when one of my kids found something outside or had a question.

This week it is being offered as a FREE download! But, even better than that is the fact that you can also get the Teacher guide too!

Here’s what you get:

PART I – TEACHER’S GUIDE & OVERVIEW (PDF ebook) – In PART ONE, you get a very helpful and practical teacher’s guide, including an overview of the purpose, scope and style of the handbook… how each lesson is set up… what nature study should do for your children… how to to tie math, art, geography, gardening, agriculture & science into your nature study, and more. Each lesson begins with a “teacher’s story” which can be read to students along with suggested activities & methods, followed by great discussion questions.

PART II – BIRDS & FISH (PDF ebook) – In PART TWO, we jump into the actual lessons, this time devoted to birds & fish. As you’ll quickly see, these lessons are wonderfully written, blending history, humor, a bit of poetry, and a delightful sense of wonder into these nature studies.”

This freebie is only available this week, so head over and download your free copies today before this valuable freebie is over.

Wow, that teacher guide will certainly be a blessing to me. I have the book and love it, but it is hard to put it into practice.

I'm so sorry Jody.

That's the only thing about the freebies I don't like, they can be here one day and gone the next. Maybe they will offer it again someday?
