Today I want to focus on ways to becoming a more frugal minded person. I realize that for some being frugal has never even crossed your mind. And for others these may seem like no brainer steps. But I assure you that when I was first starting out on my journey to live on less these were not as simple as they seem now.

1. Become a Scheduled Person

Now I’m not saying you should live and die by a schedule. But the truth is that when you have a plan you are more likely to stick to it. I’ve written before about menu planning. I am hardly ever tempted to just pick something up or go out to eat if I already know what is for dinner. Deciding what to make each night is the hardest part!

2. Plan Regular Grocery Trips

Also planning a regular shopping trip that does not allow for side trips throughout the week. Anytime I used to run into the store for something I’d spend $20. My shopping day is Thursday, and I keep to a strict budget (most of the time). I spend about an hour each week planning out my trip. First I’ll look at what I need, and then I see who has the best price.

3. Use Coupons

I can not tell you enough how important this step is! At first you may think that you aren’t saving much. But when something goes on sale and you have the right coupon, it = FREE! Some things that I never actually pay for because of coupons are toothpaste, deodorant, toothbrushes, medicines, cotton swabs, soap, cleaners, Chex Mix, Yogurt, ect.,

So these are my first three tips to becoming a more frugal minded person, which works for me.
