This week I finally was able to get my garden in.
Yes, I am very much aware of the fact that it is a little late to be putting in a garden. But there were other projects that needed to be taken care of first. So now that the wood from the humongous tree we cut down has all been split and stacked, and our pool has been put back up, it is finally time for the garden.
I had to move the location for my garden this year. So I was able to extend the size quite a bit. In fact it is a little over double the size from the last couple of years. I’m very excited about this. I was also able to plant a lot of plants that are new to me.
Here is what I planted for this year:
Carrots
Tomatoes
Sweet Potatoes
Celery
Ruby Lettuce
Broccoli
Red Onions
Green Beans
Green Peppers
Red Peppers
Jalepenos
Yellow Squash
Zucchini
Eggplant
Chives
Basil
Rosemary
Orange Mint
Oregano
Strawberries
Cucumbers
I think that there’s probably something I’m forgetting. At any rate you can get a good idea of what’s growing in my garden.
I have high hopes of being able to save on my grocery bill by cutting out a lot of purchasing fresh vegetables. Growing a garden is something that works for me when it comes to feeding my family lots of fresh foods without the cost of a weekly trip to the fruit market. At least for a few months I hope to eat only fresh food from the garden and avoid buying produce altogether.
I should add that while I did extend the size of my garden, it still only takes up a little space. And this is a good thing considering that I have a pretty small yard and not a whole lot of room for a garden.
The way I make this work is by using All New Square Foot Gardening method, and it works great, especially if you are limited on space like I am. Using this method leaves no excuse for just about anyone to have a decent producing garden.
