We took a spontaneous trip to my parents house last week. It was just what we needed. We were only there for 2 1/2 days, but it was perfect and refreshing.

First of all, it takes almost eight hours to get there. They live in the middle of the woods, completely opposite from where we live.

The ride itself is amazing. It is almost as if you can feel the city wearing off as we drive. During the eight hour ride we have each others undivided attention. This gives us the opportunity to talk a lot. It takes a whole lot of talking to fill eight hours. It’s like we have the chance to really catch up on the ride up.

Once we get there, it’s all natural.

There’s no TV, friends, or othr distractions. The only thing is you, family, nature and God.

We spent our time sleeping, playing on the trampoline, taking a boat ride on the lake, watching everything that lives around the lake, catching frogs, playing chess, reading, talking, making smores, letting my daughter drive, eating, fishing, setting up deer blinds, and more.

When it was time to go, we had a hard time leaving. We love the pureness of life that can be found in the middle of the woods on a lake.

Nevertheless, it was time to go.

Now that we were feeling completely refreshed we were ready to go back to our real lives. It’s as if we needed to recharge our batteries. We all came home with new understanding of each other, along with new hope for the future.

So I would say that spontaneous trips that involve eight hour rides is just the thing the Works for Me and my family, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to be able to go.
