Reasons You Will Love These Christmas Cookies
- Festive and colorful! These cookies scream Christmas time and are so fun.
- Easy to make cookies that even little kids will love to help make the cookie dough.
- No chill dough! So no sitting and waiting for the cookie dough before you bake.
- Simple everyday pantry ingredients. No hard-to-find ingredients.
Ingredients
Flour – All-purpose flour is what is used for making these cookies. Make sure that you measure properly.
Baking Soda – This is going to help the cookies to rise up a bit and have a light texture.
Salt – Salt is a must when it comes to baking cookies. The salt is going to truly transform the flavors.
Butter – I do recommend using real butter for this recipe. Make sure it is softened and not melted.
Sugar – Brown sugar and granulated sugar and both used to help add the perfect sweetness to the cookies.
Vanilla – A bit of vanilla extract is going to really bring an aromatic flavor to the cookies that will stand out from the rest.
Eggs – Eggs are a must as they are the binder of the cookies. Room temperature works best.
Mix-Ins– Semi-sweet chocolate chips, M&M’s, and mini pretzels. You have sweet, crunchy, and salty all in one.
How to Make
Full steps on how to make these cookies for Santa are in the printable recipe card.
This is a quick walk-through.
Step 1: Start by adding your dry ingredients all in a bowl. Mix well and then set to the side.
Step 2: Next in a bowl cream your sugars, and butter, and then add in the eggs and vanilla.
Step 3: Slowly work in the dry ingredients.
Step 4: Crush up the pretzels into smaller pieces.
Step 5: Fold in the pretzels, chocolate chips, and Christmas M&M’s.
Step 6: Scoop and place on a baking sheet and bake as directed.
Let cool a few minutes then transfer to a cooling rack.
Of course. Chocolate chunks, cut up your favorite chocolate bar, white chocolate chips, etc. Feel free to use what you would like for making the cookies.
The pretzels will get a bit soft when they are mixed and baked. Allow the cookies to fully cool before you store them, as that will help prevent the pretzels from getting too soft.
If you use salted butter just leave out the salt in the recipe. Otherwise, it can cause your cookies to be a bit too salty.
Tips for Making
- I like to cream the butter and sugars for 2-3 minutes to get it light in color and fluffy. This helps add a richer flavor to the cookies but also a light texture.
- Make sure to add the dry ingredients into their own bowl. Mix well to ensure it is incorporated. This is going to help it mix better with the wet ingredients.
- Crush up the pretzels a bit so they are not too big when you go to bite into the cookies.
- Allowing the cookies to cool for a few minutes on the cookie tray helps to ensure they are not going to change shape if you were to scoop them hot from the oven.
- Room temperature/softened butter is going to provide the right texture. If you melt the butter it can cause the cookies to spread too much as they break. If you melt butter, refrigerate the cookie dough for 30 minutes or so to set it up.
- Using a cookie scoop is going to give you evenly shaped cookies but also help all the cookies bake up evenly.
Storing Cookies
Santa cookies can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 4-5 days. You will find they are best eaten within the first few days of being made as they will dry out a bit.
You can also freeze any of the cookies you don’t plan to eat right away. Simply place it in a freezer container and freeze for 3-4 months. Then eat straight from the freezer or thaw on the counter.
