Ingredients

  • 3 ½ cup flour
  • 1 cup + 1/3 cup sugar
  • ½ stick butter softened
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup molasses
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground gingersnap
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground cloves
  • ½ tsp ground cardamom
  • frosting: canned cake frosting or homemade buttercream

Instructions

  • Cream the butter and sugar together until well combined.
  • Mix in eggs, mollases, and vinegar.
  • Sift together flour, spices, and baking soda and add to butter mixture.
  • Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic and refridgerate at least one hour.
  • Roll dough on a floured board, ¼ inch thick.
  • Cut shapes with cookie cutters.
  • Bake at 375° for 8-10 minutes, until lightly browned
  • Cool on a wire rack and pipe frosting.
