Salted Caramel Apple Cider Balls
As if you really needed another reason to make these cider balls, but just think about the flavor! I’m a huge fan of cider and I literally can’t get enough of these caramel treats. These are a must in our household during the fall and winter months of the year.
Ingredients Needed To Make Salted Caramel Apple Cider Balls
- salted caramel candy melts
- apple cider instant drink mix
- white candy melts
Expert Tips
- Don’t confuse these with hot cocoa balls! You’re actually going to use hot water in this recipe – not milk!
- Add the coating of melted chocolate all around in the silicone mold. It needs to have an even coating of chocolate to be able to hold all the cider on the inside.
How To Make Salted Caramel Cider Balls
Before you get started, set a ceramic dinner plate in the freezer and be sure to melt your salted caramel candy melts according to package directions.
STEP 1 & 2: Spoon melted caramel into each cavity of the mold, then use the spoon to coat the sides. Place mold in the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove mold from the freezer, and repeat step 3 to add a second coat of melted caramel. Place mold in the freezer for 5 minutes.
STEP 3: Heat a frying pan so that it’s nice and hot. Remove mold and plate from the freezer, and unmold the caramel semi-spheres, setting them on the chilled plate.
STEP 4 & 5: Holding one caramel semi-sphere upside down, gently touch it to the hot frying pan to heat the layer of caramel.
Flip the caramel semi-sphere upside down and pour the apple cider mix inside.
Repeat step 4, then attach it to the apple cider mix-filled semi-sphere.
STEP 6: Put the white candy melts into a ziplock bag and heat for 30 seconds in the microwave. Remove and massage the bag with your hand to help melt the candy. If not completely melted, heat for additional 10-second intervals, until candy is fully melted.
Snip off the very corner of the baggie with scissors, and drizzle candy over the cider balls, in a back and forth motion.
To enjoy, fill a mug with 6 oz of boiling water, drop the bomb in and stir well.
As long as you keep them stored in an airtight container, that’s all you have to worry about! They’ll be good for up to 2 months of time!
A drizzle of caramel topping is always a good idea. If you want to add anything else, just make sure it’s crushed up and added with melted chocolate so that it sticks to the top.
While you probably can, I wouldn’t. After you add in the cider packet, just store them in a container at room temperature.
How to use Caramel Apple Cider Balls
Once they’re made and done, it’s the perfect time to use one! Just add to the bottom of your mug and pour 6 ounces of hot water over the top. Stir, and enjoy!
