How to Design a Bookmark

Once you know how to twist and bend your wire using the crimping and wire twisting tools, you can move on to other designs.

It’s easy to draw your own design to use as your template.

Supplies, wire twisting tools, and template to DIY wire bird bookmarks.

List of Wire Twisting Supplies:

  1. Craft wire – 16 gauge or 18 gauge
  2. Craft pliers – cutting, looping and flat nose pliers
  3. Printed template

How to Make a Wire Bookmark

One thing to keep in mind while making your wire twisted bookmarks, is this is a DIY that takes a bit of focus and patience.

Take your time, and your final product will come out beautifully done.

First step to starting the body of the wild bird bookmark.

Step 1: Print out the template and select the size for the bookmark you’d like to craft.

Place the printed template of the bird on your craft table and grab some craft wire.

Start the craft by creating a small loop at the open end of the wire.

Step 2: We need to start our craft from the center of the wing.

Create a twirl pattern around the loop by forming a lens shape.

This will be the wing of the wire bird.

Step 3: Use flat nose pliers to create the bends neatly.

Place the twirled wire on the wing part of the template to check the pattern.

Done? Let’s move to the next part.

Step 4: Use flat nose pliers to create a bend right below the wing, to form the top end of the tail.

Bend 2 more times to create the tail part of the wire bird.

Step 5: Now we will form the top curved end of the wire bird.

Simply place the current wire work on the template and bend the wire along the top curved end of the bird template.

Step 6: Use flat nose pliers to bend the wire and to start the head part of the bird.

Form a round shape and check the size with the template (the head part of the bird).

Step 7: Continue to trace the template and use the pliers to give shape to the wire while tracing the template.

Step 8: Bend the wire along the bottom curved part of the template.

Step 9: Keep enough wire (3 or 4 cm will do) to form a small loop and cut off extra wire.

Form the loop with the remaining wire with the help of the looping pliers.

And done!

Your bookmarks are ready to give away or keep for yourself!
