Ingredients needed to make eggs in a basket

  • fresh eggs
  • homemade bread or sliced bread
  • butter, oil, or bacon fat
  • side of bacon or sausage
  • fresh fruit
  • juice/milk/coffee
  • cookie cutter

How to Make Egg in a Basket Breakfast

In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter, oil or bacon fat.

Using a cookie cutter, cut a hole in the center of a slice of bread.

Place the bread in the skillet and cook until the bottom starts to turn golden brown.

Crack an egg into the center, cooking until it starts to become solid on the bottom.

Add more butter (oil, fat) to skillet as needed.

Carefully flip the bread with a spatula and cook until golden brown.

The length of cooking time depends on preference over-easy yolk or hard yolk.

Flip the center cutout and cook until both sides are golden brown.

Transfer the egg in a basket to a plate and top with the center piece.

Enjoy with choice of fresh vegetables, fruit, bacon or sausage.
