Step 1: Grab your blender or food processor and make your oat flour as directed.

How to Cook Homemade Oatmeal Packets

Step 1: Add oatmeal mix in a bowl.

Step 2: Heat up 1 cup of water and bring to a boil. Then pour the water over the oatmeal.

Step 3: Gently stir and let sit for a couple of minutes. It will thicken and then ready to be served.

Storing

Store your oatmeal packets at room temperature in the pantry.

These packets will store for 3-4 months in the pantry depending on the ingredients you use in them.

How can I add extra nutrients to the oatmeal?

Depending on the extra ingredients you can add extra minerals and vitamins.

Flaxseed is great to add into the mixture.

Or even a wheat germ or chia seeds. Add a few tablespoons to the mixture.

Can I make larger packets of oatmeal packets?

Go ahead and add more oats to each bag if you want.

Just know as a rule of thumb that 1/2 cup of this mixture needs 1 cup of water.

So you will double the amount of liquid you use compared to the amount of oats.

Are instant oatmeal packets healthy?

The biggest issue with store bought packets is they do contain a higher amount of sugar.

So making your own at home allows you to control the amount of sugar used in the recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 42 ounce container quick cooking oats, divided
  • 1 ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ½ cups brown sugar or brown sugar substitute
  • 1 ¼ cup original powdered coffee creamer or powdered milk
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • Sandwich bags or small containers for storing

Instructions
 

  • In a high-powered blender or food processor, make oat flour from 4 cups of the quick cooking oats by pulsing until the oats are powdered.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the oats, oat flour, salt, brown sugar, coffee creamer, and cinnamon.
  • Scoop ½ cup portions into storage bags. Seal the bags well.
  • To make oatmeal, add the contents of a packet to a bowl. Stir in about 1 cup hot water. Oatmeal will thicken as it rests.
