Weekly Shopping Report

The Grocery Challenge is officially underway, and I have to admit I wasn’t thrilled to see another week where I wasn’t able to reach the goal budget.

I think the biggest thing I have learned is that it just takes time to work up to a place where you can successfully reach your targeted goal budget.  Does that mean I should adjust my budget since it looks like I have only been able to stay under budget once in the last several weeks?

Well I am not totally sure just yet.  What I do know is that it takes time to build up momentum and extra food supplies.  Until that time your goal should be a little difficult to reach, but not impossible.  So what I am planning to do is wait at least 8 weeks before I make the decision to change anything.

At the end of 8 weeks, if it looks like I can’t reach the goal I will considering adjusting it by $10.  But for now I will just be satisfied with trying my best each week to hit the $50 mark.

This week I hit Target, Kroger, Meijer, and CVS.

  1. Well I’d say you’re still doing better than me. I have noticed my grocery bill shrinking a little, but I’m still over budget :-p. By the time I over spend at Meijer I can’t afford to stockpile elsewhere. In fact by the time I buy our weekly basics I have little left to spend on the stockpile. Slowly but surely right?

  2. I spent a lot on last weeks shopping trip, but I saved a lot, and I stocked up on a lot of things. I paid very little for each item, and I had at least 7 or 8 coupons for each thing (thanks to friends at work giving me their coupons), and I was able to buy a large quantity of each item with paying very little or free. I get paid bi-weekly so I figure I spend about $150 for 2 weeks of groceries for 5 people. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get down to $50 a week, but I’m happy with what I’m spending. Next weeks trip should only be a few basics, meats, and produce. I go to the Randazzo’s on Gratiot, it’s cheaper there. Just a question though, for the CVS trip, was the razor included in that $10 you spent?
